Haridwar is known one of the seven holiest places & as one of the shaktipeeth in india, situated in the state of Uttaranchal in northern part and Considered tobe blessed by Hindu Trinity - Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, the city plays host to the 'Ardh Kumbh Mela' every sixth year. It is situated on the foothills of Lord Shivaliks, holds great religious significance for Hindus. According to Hindu mythology, The Gods are believed to have left theirfootprints in Haridwar. It is the first place where Holy River Ganges meets the plains after falling down from the great Himalayas. This holy city Known as the Gateway to the Gods, It also serves as home to one of the holiest bathing ghats in the country, known as 'Har Ki Paudi'. Here pilgrims float diyas on the Ganges and take a dip in the water, to commemorate their deceased ancestors. The city also stands as a gateway point of Rishikesh and Char Dham (the four main canters of pilgrimage) in Uttarakhand, namely Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri.
